Water is a common thing in our lives. We drink it every day and use it in many ways, such as washing, cleaning, cooking, etc. It seems to us that we can obtain it whenever we need it and use it as much as we want. This illusion always makes us ignore a big problem which billions of people all around the world are suffering from—water scarcity.
Statistics suggest that nowadays more than one billion people have no access to clean drinking or potable water and by the year 2025, the situation may become worse.
Pollution, overuse of water, water wastage, which are mostly results of anthropogenic activities, are some of the main causes of water scarcity.
Severe water scarcity brings a lot of pains and diseases to humanity. Besides, it also has many negative impacts on the environment, including increased salinity, the loss of floodplains and wetlands, etc.
To solve this problem as well as any other big problems in the world, we still have a long way to go and it requires the efforts of everyone.
